New York State Academy
of Fire Science
Operated by New York State's Office of Fire
Prevention and Control, the Senator Frederick L.
Warder Academy of Fire Science, at its upstate main
campus and downstate regional annex, offers a wide
array of courses to prepare those in the emergency
services to effectively serve their organizations and
communities.
As well as general fire service training (including
such topics as fire suppression, incident command,
fire equipment maintenance, fire officer and
instructor development, dispatcher training and
firefighter health and safety), the Academy offers
specialized coursework in code enforcement, arson
investigation, confined space and technical rescue,
and a number of other fields. Many courses lead to
professional certifications, and state-sponsored
National Fire Academy courses also are offered.
Located in Montour Falls, New York in the Finger
Lakes Region of New York State, the Senator Frederick
L. Warder Academy of Fire Science includes a
five-story administration and residential building
and a three-story classroom building, both fully
sprinklered.
The Academy can accommodate more than 200 students.
There are eight classrooms, a large auditorium, a
library, a videotape library, and a pump maintenance
training room. An arson simulation training center,
hazardous materials training site and a sprinkler
laboratory provide hands-on practice and training.
