All about the Fire Academy Faculty Student
Association
Fire Academy FSA is the business name for the Senator
Frederick L. Warder Academy of Fire Science Faculty
Student Association, Inc., a domestic not-for-profit
corporation which provides support to enhance the
quality of life for students and faculty at the New
York State Academy of Fire Science. Incorporated in
1983, Fire Academy FSA is totally separate from New
York State and its Office of Fire Prevention and
Control.
The organization's mission, as taken from its
Certificate of Incorporation, is as follows:
- To create, promote and foster social and
fraternal relationship between the faculty and
students of the Academy and to encourage and assist
the faculty and students in the promotion of
educational, social, literary and recreational
activities for their entertainment, benefit and
welfare.
- To lease, operate and maintain recreation
centers and reception assembly rooms for the
purpose of providing entertainment, recreation and
amusements of all kinds, etc.
- To promote the exchange and distribution of
educational ideas and materials.
- And to do any other act or thing incidental to
or connected with the foregoing purposes.
Fire Academy FSA is supported through membership dues
and proceeds from the sale of merchandise at its
Bookstore, located on the ground level of the New
York State Academy of Fire Science at Montour Falls,
New York. As well as selling goods at the store, the
Association further promotes the distribution of
educational materials through its role as the
authorized reseller of IFSTA Training Guides in New
York State.
The Association has received some grants and
donations. Gifts to Fire Academy FSA are tax-exempt
under Section 501(c)(3) of the federal internal
revenue code.
Administration
Management of the Association is vested in a
seven-member Board of Directors, with daily operation
delegated to an Executive Director.
Membership
Anyone who is a full-time employee of the New York
State Office of Fire Prevention and Control or who
has or will receive a Certificate of Graduation from
a designated program of the New York State Academy of
Fire Science may join the Association. Members pay
$25.00 for Life Membership.
